I have a 1099-DIV from Homestead Funds with some tiny reportable income amounts. There are two funds listed with different TIN, only one of which paid dividend and cap gain, the other shows ONLY cap gains amount (less than $50).
Turbotax asks for the FEIN for the institution, but I'm not seeing that listed. Are the TIN interchangeable with FEIN in this case? Since there are two TIN on the same document, how do I handle this?
Thanks for helping. These are such tiny amounts, but I want to do it right.

Sorry, I meant the FEIN is requested for the institution, and the form lists TIN for the funds. Corrected above.
Yes, you can use the TIN number in place of the FEIN in this case.
A FEIN number is a Federal Employers Identification Number).
An EIN number is an Employer identification Number that identifies a business that operates in the U.S.
A TIN number is a Taxpayer Identification Number used to describe different types of tax ID numbers.
A TIN (Tax Identification Number) is used for the tax purposes of the business.

@LindaS5247 quick question - where and why is TT asking for this on 1099-DIVs, I use the desktop version and it's optional in fact you have to go out of your way to input it via Forms I think, it's not a field on EasyStep - same with 1099-INTs etc.
Please clarify your question by providing some additional information so we can better help you.
Such as: Were you asked to enter an ID number? Did you get an error asking you to enter this after you entered a Form 1099-DIV? The Desktop version doesn't seem to be asking for it. Did you enter the 1099-DIV manually? (i.e. "I'll type it myself")
Thanks @LindaS5247 . That doesn't fully answer my question, however. I'm gathering that I need to get Homestead's EIN, and then I can just enter the info as shown on the 1099-DIV, regardless of how many different funds (with different TINs) are listed. Is that correct? (Why the heck don't they list the EIN for the organization on the form?)
To clarify, are you looking for an EIN for Homestead Funds from Arlington, Va.? If so, the EIN is 83-3576764.
Thanks Dave. I saw that one too, but I only see it associated with Homestead Funds TRUST. Probably the same thing but I need to research further to make sure.
