Form 7206 (not done)

It’s 2/8.  TT telling me that my return is not eligible for E-file because I use Form 7206. Urging me to file by mail.
Form 7206 is completed and available for view on the Forms tab.
Any thoughts?

Form 7206 (not done)

Using the desktop version. Software update includes 2/8 update. TT still saying Form 7206 use ineligible for e-filling.
Very disappointed in Intuit. No communication or even an acknowledging that there is a problem.

Form 7206 (not done)

I found someone to talk with at TurboTax.  [phone number removed]

I also found on irs.gov a copy of the new form. It has not available for use before 2/6/2024

The IRS is the problem at the moment.

She tried to get an answer from an expert and could not.

I told her that there are a lot of us very frustrated and she needs to tell someone.

She said February is the month where the IRS and Turbotax resolve issues. She encouraged me to wait a few days.

It could be Monday or it could be March 1

1) IRS has 'already' published for 7206

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f7206.pdf

2) Proof, people able to file using TT online with success filing, rather than Desktop. The form 7206 is available there and TT allows to file immediately.

I appreciate your TT contact and message here, but obviously the person you spoke with is clueless.

Form 7206 (not done)

Also talked to someone at TT. He said they are on it and should be ready by next week. We'll see.

One item of note: the current 7206 form on irs.gov is different than the one on my desktop version of TT Home & Business. Looks like TT needs to catch up to IRS's new version of the form.

Next week??

Doesn't matter, I already filed with H&R online. Yes, I lost my money from TurboTax but at least it go filed today.

Can you file electronically now with form 7206?

Form 7206 (not done)

No. I just checked it and TT still has the same issue.

It *appears* that the issue is with the TT Desktop version and not the online version.  I have read that people who used the online version have been able to successfully E-File with the 7206 as has customers of HR Block.

I'm going to wait it out until next week to see if TT can get this fixed.  If not, then I will try the online version or move to HR Block

It is 4:14 EST on 2/8/2024. TurboTax forms availability  matrix says form 7206 is ready to e-file, but it is not. I get a message saying "You have form 7206 Self-Employed Health Insurance Deduction that is not supported for electronic filing...." This may be because the instructions for form 7206 on IRS.gov still say they are draft instructions. The watermark on the instructions says "Treasury and OMB use only draft February 6, 2024." TurboTax needs to correct its forms availability matrix and do whatever it takes to make it e-fileable. When it is, please email us.

Form 7206 (not done)

The final form is available at the IRS website, and has been for two days, for some reason TT techs haven't added it to the 'desktop software'.

Anyway, I already went with HR Block, too concerned with TT this year.

Form 7206 (not done)

I too reached a live person at TT today.  As many now observe, the new final (non-draft) version of IRS Form 7602 is now available with TT updates.  In my case, in the "forms" view, the red error mark has disappeared.  But, as you say, when you do the review it still says you can't efile with this form.  My rep had no personal knowledge of this issue...but checked with her people without much new info.  I'm now about where you are...she said to be a little more patient but TT will fix the problem "soon".  I could not find ANYTHING on the IRS website that indicated 7206 was incompatible with e-filing.  So...stay tuned I guess!

Form 7206 (not done)

The form on TT is now the correct approved one, and the red flag has gone away.  But a review of the return still comes up with the cannot e-file message.  TT rep says it may take them a couple days to connect all the dots.  Guess we'll see.

Form 7206 (not done)

Interesting because when I called yesterday I spoke to two reps and both said that’s the first time they heard about it. They just said that with this form you cannot E-file. Proof that support sucks. It’s the same with Quickbooks over the last years so many people lacking experience. I am done with Intuit.

This response re:  F 7206 does not seem correct.  See "How to figure the deduction" (middle of column 2 of form instructions), which states that generally you can use the worksheet in the F 1040 instructions to figure the SE health insurance deduction.  It goes on to list certain limited circumstances where you "must" use F 7206. which include just the following:

  • More than 1 source of income subject to SE tax
  • F 2555 is presence
  • Claiming amounts paid for LT care insurance

I would guess that most individuals claiming the SE health insurance deduction would NOT need to complete F 7206.
