I have used a CPA for many years to file my taxes (as well as an elder parent's), but the cost is starting to outstrip the benefit. My understanding is that I can use TurboTax to file for a parent by creating a separate online account. However, because I've never used this software or service before, I don't want any surprises.
I'm not going to download the software. I'll just create a unique online account for the parent.
How does signing a return for an elder parent work through TurboTax? I have a POA, the online profile would be the parent's. My CPA has always signed the return. I don't want to go through this process with TurboTax only to hit a dead end, or create complications. I just would like to see a visual tutorial on how one files taxes for a parent. How does TurboTax online understand someone else is filing the return on behalf of someone else?
