EV credit for car ordered in 2021 but arrived early 2022

I assume this is rather obvious but thought I'd try after no luck on google.

I ordered a new EV in June 2021 and paid the deposit - was supposed to arrive by end of the year but with supply and production delays I of course got it in January and paid the balance. I was wondering if there was any way to claim for 2021 since I owe a lot of federal tax money and the credit would help.

Hopefully it will be the same in 2022 if not but always worried with govt tinkering with eligibility.

No, you can not claim the credit for 2021 because you did not take delivery, or ownership, of the vehicle until 2022.
