Error Review Item

An item to fix came up in review:

“Schedule C (teaching quilting and sewing classes): Line 1e. W2 Statutory cannot be reported on the same Schedule C as other business income. Either remove any amount entered for statutory employee income or unlink the W-2 worksheet from this copy of Schedule C and link it to a different Schedule C.”

The amount entered is $0.0 and we did not have any W-2s. I’ve tried to delete the amount with no success.

The statutory income would be from a W-2 entry. You may have a W-2 being carried over from a previous year. You can see if there is any W-2 in your file by doing the following:

1. Find the Tax Tools option on your left menu bar and click on it

2. Click on Tools

3. Find Delete a Form and click on it

4. Look for a Form W-2 in the list of forms and click on the option to delete it

That did not work. There is no delete file on the tools drop down menu. No W-2 shows up in the forms list. I am using TurboTax Premier.

Are you using Online or Desktop?

If you have a desktop program, click on "Forms mode" at the top right-hand side.

Desktop and I have clicked on the forms button. There is no W-2 listed, just the Schedule C with the error information.

Can you get to the line showing the error and click on it? You should be able to do that in Forms Mode and it should take you to the source of the error.

Somehow the schedule C is being linked to a W-2. It might be some work, but if you could delete the business and re-create it that would probably solve the problem.

Also, you could try entering a dummy W-2, and click on the "Statutory Employee" box. Later, you will be asked if you want to link the W-2 to a schedule C, to which you would answer "no" and then a new schedule C will be created and be linked to the dummy W-2. That might result in the original schedule C being unlinked.
