Entering W2 for IHSS Live-in provider not letting me e-file

Hi there,

I have $0 as income in my IHSS W2 as I am a live-in provider. TurboTax accepted my W2. Boxes 3, 4, 5 and 6 have values >0. But once I do so, TurboTax is not letting me e-file as it says that One of the W-2s doesn't have an amount in box 1 or the amount is less than $1. Please advise. Thank you!

Just leave the W2 off.  It has no effect on the tax return whatsoever.

You will want to make sure you check this box at the end of your W2 entries. This will allow you to chose if you want to include the income for earned income credit purposes or not and will resolve your e-file problem.

Thank you! It is not seem to make any difference in the amounts I owe/refund whether I keep or remove the IHSS W2. Please confirm if it is ok not to include IHSS W2 with $0 in box 1 and box 2.

The only fields that have values are Social Security Wages (Box 3), Social Security Tax Withheld (box 4), Medicare wages (box 5) and Medicare tax withheld (box 6).

Yes, that is correct. If your end result stays the same, these wages must not impact your eligibility for Earned Income Credit.

Now that you marked the income as Medicaid Waiver Payments, you shouldn't have any issue filing.

Thank you. Even after choosing Medicaid waiver as per your suggestion, TuroTax is not ready to e-file due to box 1 in my W2 being 0. I would appreciate your advice. Thank you.
