Ok ... it is not "taxed higher" however the increased income in one pay period means you will see higher than normal withholdings for just that one pay period ... at the end of the year all your income and withholding is entered on the same tax return ... if too much was withheld you will get a refund.
Review the withholding tables the employer must use ( starting on page 48) ... choose the single or married chart and the number of allowances you claim .... see the withholding difference between earning $200 a week and $400 a week ... https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf
