Can I file taxes early without W-2?

No.....The IRS hasn't announced when they will start accepting yet.  In the past 10 years or so, they haven't started until ~ 3rd week in January.  One or twice not until the end of Jan.

If you have to wait that long anyhow, might as well wait for your W-2...employers are required to put it in the mail by 31 Jan.

If you file without it, you WILL misfile your tax return data...and have to amend later....amending a tax return is a nightmare you don't want to go thru (and has to be mailed in by you at the Post Office).

so.....Don't file before ~1 Feb or only after you get ALL of your tax reporting documents.
