Hi my son 23 full time college student I usually claim him. This year he made 3737.00 in earned income school job but was layed off due to COVID-19 he applied for unemployment and received 15,000 in unearned income for 2020. He qualifies to be dependent but I’m wondering about his total income would that disqualify him To be my dependent? I don’t know where all the money went but I still paid most of His living expenses. I just want to make sure I can still claim him as a dependent? Thank you
Yes, as long as you meet all of the requirements in the following link, you can still claim him as a dependent.
Who can I claim as a dependent
Be sure you meet the requirement stating that he did not provide more than half of his own support during the year. As long as you can prove that, you will be able to claim him as he is your child (even with amount of money he received).
