TurboTax for tax year 2019 and QuickBooks 2020 will install on Windows 7 (Service Pack 1 or later) PCs. However, we strongly recommend upgrading your operating system before installing these products. It is highly unlikely the next year's TurboTax product will work with Windows 7.
As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. This means that computers running on Windows 7 will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. To avoid these risks, Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 10.
At Intuit, the security of our customers’ data is a top priority. To help customers safeguard their personal information, like their Social Security number and bank account information, we strongly recommend that desktop customers using Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10 before installing their product.
I have personally installed TTax 2019 Premier on my Win 7 machine successfully. I have also successfully applied several updates and installed the state software as well.
You have to consider that TTax does not fully support TTax 2019 on Win 7 they do not prevent installation. The policy is if it installs and works there is no problem; however if you encounter any problems in the future with Win 7 they will not provide any official assistance.
My view is that if you encounter a 'tax related' problem it would not be unique to Win 7, thus at some point if that same problem is reported by a Win 10 user the flaw would be corrected. But, if it is related to a Win 7 issue there would be no forthcoming fix.
A word of caution, during the installation (and again each time you launch the program) it will nag you to upgrade to Win 10.
Caveat Emptor
I have secured my own operating system and I don't appreciate the forced upgrade. Restricting the software installation like that is overbearing. Is there some hidden agenda behind a forced upgrade? The slick "push" advertising channels in those Windows versions are sickening. SUGGEST DON'T FORCE. Some of us know how to protect our own computers with 3rd party aides not included in Windows.
