Amendment 2023 taxes in 2026

while filing this year. I noticed that the credit union I banked with had deposited my Reg IRA into a Personal Savings CD.  This happened in April 2023.  I did not receive a 1099R nor does it show on their website 1099R. As I dont use the bank for day to day banking --- I did not check this until now

On asking this year 2026 -- they provided me a 1099 R

I opened the turbo tax 2023 software started filling up the amendment info.

At end of it I have questions.

1) It says e-filing closed on Oct 15th 2024. You can file by mail

2)  On the next screen it says efile.

3)  On another screen it says "don't file by mail - returns that have been already transmitted"

I am not sure how to proceed. Should I efile or mail.

4) Also I am not sure what forms should I mail. I read 1040X. Any other forms?

5) Can I make a payment online instead of mailing in a check

6) What forms do I mail for NJ besides 1040x-NJ?

Thank you

Are you sure that the funds left the IRA? It is perfectly possible for an IRA to have a CD in it.

I would want to confirm that the dollars left your IRA - if they didn't, this could explain why you did not receive a 1099-R.

When did they think that they send you the dollars from the IRA? 2023? 2024? 2025? 2026?

There are too many unanswered questions here.

Funds left the IRA -- it was moved by credit union to a Personal Savings CD on April 06 2023 -- without my consent

They provided me a 1099-R for 2023 today after I created a ruckus for 2 days.

This TurboTax FAQ "Can I e-file my federal Form 1040-X amended return?" says that you can e-file the 1040X for 2023 if certain conditions are met. I would watch carefully for texts or emails from TurboTax and the IRS confirming that the 1040X was filed.

As for which forms you send, it will be the 1040X and any forms that changed (probably the 1099-R and the 1040). I would expect TurboTax to collect the correct set of forms.

As for payment, I would go see the IRS page Payments and try it there. I use this on a regular basis. Just indicate "Amended" and make one payment for 2023.

NJ needs also only the forms that changed. I would let TurboTax figure that out.

Turbo tax tells me that --- federal amended  has to be mailed and NJ amended can be e-filed but  on the next screen it shows  the above

I have decided to mail the return an pay online

I am mailing

to FEDERAL -- 1040x and a copy of 1099R

STATE NJ -- 1040x NJ, copy of 1099R

Is anything you think of missing???

For the Federal return, mail to them the Federal 1040-X and the 1099-R Copy B to the IRS.  For the New Jersey return, mail them the NJ amended return, and a copy of the Federal 1040-X along with their 1099-B Copy 1.   Be sure to sign and date the amended forms for both of those before sending them in.  TurboTax would have also given you mailing addresses for each of those returns also.
