Hello, I got to the part where it asks you about the amount I received for the 3rd stimulus and I put $1,400. My partner received a payment for $1,400 as well but for 2021 I am claiming them as a dependent so it is saying that I can claim a credit for $1,400 I’m guessing because of the dependent. Which amount should I put in? My letter had $1,400 amount. He went from independent to dependent in tax filing status.

You partner did receive his 3rd stimulus payment and since he is now on your tax return, you will have to include the amount he received with the amount you did.

found this in FAQ. Doesn’t that refute your statement. I’m just trying to get this right.

You are correct, when a person becomes a dependent, or is no longer a dependent that changes the amount of the stimulus payment.

You should report only what you received on your tax return. That is the amount the IRS is expecting to see.

Just a word of caution, in some states, claiming your partner as a dependent is a risky position. Just be sure you review the dependent rules carefully before you file.
