1040 9b missing

TT interview asked daughter  about parent's, i.e. myself, income. It is very recursive math, mine is asking about her income, hers is asking about mine.

So going through the interview I stopped at the question "Parent's Qualified Dividends" with reference to the item 9b on my return.

But my 1040 does not have any 9b item at all, only 9. I did not have any dividends, I can put 0, but isn't missing item in 1040 telling me that something is wrong?

Thank you for pointing that out. Qualified dividends would be on 3b of Form 1040 so I wonder if it is referring to something else or if this is a typo that we need to address. Since you know you had no dividends, please do enter 0 and we will look into the question.

Sorry, it is rotated.

Yes, exactly 3b 🙂

And if field is empty it means 0?

Thank you so much!

Yes, if it is empty that means 0, and you are most welcome!

Thank you for that screenshot, also, that is extra helpful and I will pass it along to the folks who can make appropriate changes.

I have the same issue but I have dividends and capital gains.  What to use?

Per on-screen instructions ( See the image below) :

If Schedule D, Line 15 is a gain, enter the amount on this line.

If Schedule D, Line 15 is a loss, do not enter an amount on this line and leave the line blank.

If you do not have a Schedule D and do have a Qualified Dividend Worksheet, enter the amount from line 3 of your Qualified Dividend Worksheet on this line.

Refer to the Qualified Dividend / Capital Gain Tax Worksheet line 3.  See the image below:

I have this same question. I am under "Child's Income (under age 24)" for my child's return. There isn't a line 9b on form 1040.I have this same question. I am under "Child's Income (under age 24)" for my child's return. There isn't a line 9b on form 1040.

Since the text asks for qualified dividends and not ordinary dividends - should we be looking at 3a? and not at 3b?

The qualified dividends would be listed on line 3(a) for sure.
