As I understand it, the minimum thresholds for not owing/filing taxes is: $14,600 for earned income and $1250 for unearned income
My child made below these two thresholds. So as I understand it, she shouldn't owe any taxes. However, one employer did deduct a small amount of federal taxes $30). I thought by filing the taxes, my child will be able to get that amount refunded. However, TurboTax is running through some weird calculations that results in my child only getting a $4 refund because it thinks she owes some taxes. Am I missing something?
BTW - I know we're talking about a small amount. I'm just curious if I'm misunderstanding how this works?
