Quarterly taxes

I started working for postmates this February as my first job. I’ve never filed taxes before and was claimed as a dependent on my parent’s taxes in 2019. Postmates considers me as self employed. I don’t know how to file taxes, and I don’t know how to do quarterly taxes, I’m not sure if I have to file this year since I haven’t worked a full year yet and I did not have income last year. I just want to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong. Postmates hasn’t sent me a 1099-MISC and I wonder if it’s because I haven’t worked a year yet

Quarterly taxes

If you only started working in February of 2020 and did not work during 2019, then you do not need to file a 2019 tax return.

After the end of 2020, you should receive a Form 1099-MISC from your self-employment job with Postmates reporting the income that you earned from them during 2020.  You should get this form in January or early February of 2021.  It will be used to file your 2020 tax return.

Take a look at the following TurboTax articles to learn more about being self-employed and what expenses you may be able to track and deduct from your income:

What is the self-employment tax?

Do I need to make estimated payments to the IRS?
