property taxes after divorce

we sold our house and got a divorce fall of 2021 so filing single. How do I enter the property taxes? Do I just split it 50/50?

Typically, you would either divide it 50/50, or based on who paid for what in the marriage, if you kept your finances separate.  How you divide tax items might also be specified in your divorce papers, in which case follow that.

Yes, since you both owned the home until it was sold, you can divide the deductions in whatever manner you agree on. 

 

You could each use 1/2 of the property taxes if you both are itemizing for example. 

 

If neither of you are itemizing it doesn't matter on either return. 

 

If one of you is itemizing perhaps that person can use all the property taxes as it would not affect the other return.
