Good Morning pafkatu2x,
If you filed your federal and state returns and received refunds or paid balance due and now you are getting email saying you are missing state taxes? Where is this email coming from? Is it coming from the state?
It is important to know answers to these questions to see if this email is legitimate.
Hope this helps.
Turbo Tax recently sent out emails to finish filing to everyone. But I don't think that specified federal or state. It was just a mass email from the marketing dept. They don't know if or how you filed. Like it's common to have another account.
The IRS and states don't send emails, only letters. If it's about a state tax due,
Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out. Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the state for the state to take it out of your account. But most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay.
Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbo Tax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay. Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.
