i opted to have state taxes owed debited from my checking account but when shown my final fed refund the amount shown has the state amount deducted from it.  when i chose to pay turbo tax with my fed refund did that automatically deduct and pay my state with my fed refund?

No you can never have a state tax due deducted from a federal refund.  You can only have the fees deducted from your refund.  At the end Turbo Tax just shows you the NET amount of federal and state for your info.  But you still have to pay the state yourself or have it debit your bank account.  So you should be ok.
