Paying for software.

WE pay for software we cannot even right off, then when we file electronically, we are billed another 24.99..  I really don't get it..  Just include the cost in the software when you buy it.  It's like , oh thanks for buying this, oh wait, you want to file, pay us more and we will file it for you.

Just pay the  full price when we buy it..

I'm assuming you're referring to the $24.99 fee to e-file a state return?  You can always print and mail for free.  TurboTax just offers the option to e-file a state return.

And federal returns always e-file free of charge.

Thanks.. But  not the point. IF you buy software, you should not have all these add ons. And besides, E-file is a convenience but the cost is no where near 25.00 to do this.  Again, just asking you to shell out more money at the end of the transaction is petty.   All they need to do is jut make it paid up front and if you still print and ship if you want to.   Maybe offer refunds that way.

I'm not a TurboTax employee; I'm a user just like you.  I agree that $24.99 is pricey to e-file a state return.  (The price just went up from $19.99, by the way).  But I can see why it wouldn't be included in the price at the point of sale, as prices wouldn't be kept at their minimum.  Keeping the add-on options keeps the price down.  Personally, I'd rather have the choice at filing time, not a higher-price product in the retail store.

They always have federal separate from state. Since every state has different rules, TurboTax cannot charge a flat fee the way they can for the federal taxes. THIS IS WHY IT'S NOT INCLUDED. For example, the efile option isn't even available in every state. If they charged everyone for it, someone else would be angry that they had to pay for a service that they couldn't even use.
