I payed a tax payment from a previous year plus some interest during CY2021.  Can I enter this payment into the 2021 return?  If so, where do I enter it?

the selections are for either State or Local Taxes, not Federal.  Will this cause a problem?

No, it will not cause a problem.  Federal tax payments are not entered anywhere on the current year's Federal tax return.  State or local payments are entered because they may be used as an itemized deduction.

The only place that Federal payments may come into play is within certain state tax returns.
