Hey, having some issues filing my State taxes.
Situation: Worked in Washington state from January to end of April. Transferred job locations to New York state. Did not move and live in New York state until July.
TurboTax recommended the Part-Year Resident (Form IT-203) so I can pay Washington taxes from May to June, and only may New York state taxes the second half of the year.
My employer sent me 2 W-2s:
1. Washington state income from January to end of April
2. New York state income from May to December.
My employer is unwilling / unable to explode my New York W-2 to reflect time living in Washington but working for a "New York location".
Went to:
- "Allocate Wages to New York"
- Filled out "Work Days Outside of New York"
- TurboTax shows me the CORRECT allocation for what I should pay in New York, with the 2 months of not paying NY taxes.
- This does NOT show up on the next page... where is this number going??

I think you may be confused by the fact that New York will tax all of your income, then adjust the tax by the ratio of your income earned in New York versus income earned elsewhere. So, you be seeing your New York taxable income including income earned in Washington State, but that would be correct. The income allocation you do is to determine the tax on your income, not the amount of taxable income.
