open and close US bank account

Hi guys

I have one very stupid question. When we open and close the US bank accout, do we need to report to IRS? I guess no need? The reason why I am asking is because it seems that on the 8938, we need to tell IRS whether the bank account is closed or opened this year for oversea bank.

Thanks

H

No, you are not required to tell the IRS about the opening and closing of a U.S. bank account.

If you received interest from the closed bank account in 2024, you will still need to report it on your tax return.
