Online refund higher than desktop refund?

Hi I started my refund online as I normally do and was almost complete but had not filed/paid when I decided to purchase TT desktop version to save a few $$.

After filling out all my info/deductions on the desktop version my refund is about $80 lower.

I've checked everything multiple time but the amount remains the same?

What happend?

Online refund higher than desktop refund?

That depends.  Couple items I would recommend reviewing:

  • Since the difference is in your refund, I would recommend reviewing your withholding amounts from forms W-2, 1099R, 1099-SSA, 1099-G, etc in both versions to insure your input was correct.
  • Make sure your TurboTax Desktop has all the updates installed.  You can do that by clicking on the Online link at the top of the screen then "Check for Updates"
  • In TurboTax Online, after you have logged into your account and picked up where you left off, on the left side click on "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".  You will want to click "View Tax Summary" and then "Preview my 1040".  Form there you can compare your 1040 in TurboTax Online to your 1040 in TurboTax Desktop by click on the "Forms" link at the top of TurboTax Desktop.

Compare line by line in each version to find the difference then go back to your input for each version to insure the amounts entered are correct.
