Is the 2017 TT Deluxe Download offered for $29.99 the same as the $50 disc versions in the store? Does it also give me 5 free Federal filings? Also, can I pay up front?

Turbo Tax Deluxe CD/Download allows you to file one - State download and five -Federal e-files included.  The Turbo Tax Online can only prepare and e-file one federal return and five state returns.

Why would I need to file 5 state returns for one federal return? Could you check to see if you misstated the answer. The $29.99 online version only assists me with 1 fed return?

Correct, the online version will only allow you to file one Federal return where the Deluxe version CD/DVD version will allow up to five returns, hence the increased cost.  Some people do have different states that they must file due to work and home situations.
