NSO spread tax 1099-misc - Intent to Earn Money

I exercised some stock options this year. I have not sold any of the stock. I received a 1099-MISC for the difference between the price at which I bought the stock and the FMV at the time of purchase.

Does the exercise of stock options involve an "intent to earn money"?

No. Confusing question, but it is not self-employment, so answer "no" and move on. (unless this is your profession)
