A couple things to remember when filing a federal extension... 1) your federal extension also extends all State and Local income tax returns - BECAUSE, you have to first complete your federal income tax return first, before you can file your state or local tax returns because your federal adjusted Gross Income is the starting point for state and local income taxes...
I use TurboTax for Home and Business on my desktop, but the process is probably the same no matter what version you are using. In the Step By Step interface, Turbo Tax automatically asks you if you want to begin your state. They probably ask if you have more than one state as well. Say yes, and select your state. Turbo Tax will automatically import the data from your federal return into your state return. From there, the step by step sequence is similar to what you used to prepare your federal taxes. The remainder of the procesess is similar to the federal one, and you can (in most if not all states) file your state taxes electronically.
