Need help! W4 for seasonal job

I am a college student and living with my parents. I will not file tax return this year, and my parents will claim me as an independence on their tax return this year. I am working a seasonal job that would last for around 2 months. Can I be exempt from W-4? In addition, I have no unearned income.

You mean your parents will claim you as a Dependent.  It depends on how much you will make for the whole year.  If you make over 6,300 you will owe tax on it and have to file a return.

Yes, claim exempt if you expect to have less than $6300 total income for the year; otherwise, claim 1.

Technically the requirements to claim exempt are:

 • Last year you had a right to a refund of all federal income tax withheld because you had no tax liability

AND

 • This year you expect a refund of all federal income tax withheld because you expect to have no tax liability
