Name Change Delays

Hi,

I had a full name change with all the toppings. In court my name change was granted in April 2021. I alerted the SSA in May after receiving my new ID. Everything was fine and I received my new SSN Card. I then filed my return January 2022. Till this day my refund is still pending. I’ve called the IRS multiple times and provided proof my name has changed. They informed me my refund would be processed in September and refunded in October. No progress has been made. What steps should I take next seeing it’s almost 2023 and I’ll have to file a new return soon.

It is not surprising that it is taking so long. Many returns are taking nine months or more, and your return has to be handled by humans. The IRS is severely backlogged. TurboTax does not get any information after you file your return. You know that the IRS has your return and you know they are working on it. You may just have to keep waiting patiently for several more weeks...or months. Sorry.
