When going through the e-file process, Turbotax indicates I can't e-file with the NAICS code 454110 and must mail my return. Anyone else having this problem? Do you know why? The code appears to be valid.

From Schedule C instructions
Nonstore Retailers
Nonstore retailers sell all types
of merchandise using such
methods as Internet, mail-order
catalogs, interactive television,
or direct sales. These types of
Retailers should select the PBA
associated with their primary
line of products sold.
For example, establishments
primarily selling prescription
and non-prescription drugs,
select PBA code 456110
Pharmacies & Drug Retailers.
I got the same message for 541611, also a valid NAICS that I've used for years.
The IRS changed the NAICS codes for tax year 2022 as they do every so often. Click the dropdown box and select the code from the list that most closely fits your business activities.
Thanks for the response.
It appears 541611 is in the 2022 NAICS. Can't find how to share a link but here's a screenshot of it on the BLS website.
https://data.bls.gov/cew/apps/bls_naics/v3/bls_naics_app.htm#tab=hierarchy&naics=2022&hier=54161
That said, I don't particularly care about the NAICS, so long as the one I use still qualifies me for QBI. So I picked 541600 in TurboTax as was able to eFile.
But based on what I found online, I'm a bit dubious that TurboTax is using the right NAICS taxonomy.
TurboTax is going to ask the relevant questions to ensure you get the QBI deduction if your business qualifies for it. The industry code won't automatically qualify or disqualify you from the deduction. When I entered 541611, I did not get a message and the code stuck throughout the filing. Were you able to use the code in TurboTax? @n8r
The code in the original question, 454110 is not being used by TurboTax. This industry is being updated to eliminate the distinction between the physical store and online store given the increasing prevalence of internet usage and generic method of delivery for goods and services, and instead distinguish between retailers specialized by broad product lines. So, if you enter this code, TurboTax will change it to a generic code - but you can edit it.
Nope, wouldn't work for me with 541611. Tried multiple times. Worked with 541600.
