My Wife(with her ITIN) & I filed 2016 taxes as 'married Jointly', In 2017, she got her SSN and rescinded. Can i e-file with my wife this year as married jointly or paper

My Wife(with her ITIN) & I filed 2016 taxes as 'married Jointly', In 2017, she got her SSN and I have already sent letter to Austin TX IRS office for rescinding the ITIN(But didn't receive any confirmation yet, not sure whether they will provide one like that).

Can i e-file with my wife this year as married jointly or should i have to do paper file this year.

Yes, you can file jointly with your wife using her new SSN.

What you can do is try to efile using the new SSN and it the efile is rejected (because SSN does not match what is on file with the IRS), you can switch to "file by mail" and then print/mail in your return.

if the database isn't up to date yet with the ITIN-SSN switch, you could try efiling by answering that she did not file a return before

That error relates to the IRS trying to match your 2016 AGI/digital signature to the 2016 information you entered. If the 2016 AGI doesn't work, try to see if you can find a copy of 2016's digital PIN that you used last year to digitally sign your efiled returns. You may need to contact the IRS regarding get this 2016 information or get a new digital PIN.

no - the ID Protection 6 digit number is different from your digital signature that you would have used in 2016 which would have been a 5 digit number. But if you can't find if then use the 2016 AGI and if that doesn't work - either contact the IRS and explain your situation (used ITIN last year and have SSN this year) or just file by mail
