My tax return was rejected because I didn’t have a protection pin/IP pin, but when I called the IRS to help get one they said ‘that’s a turbo tax thing, call them’.

An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is not "a TurboTax thing." It's an IRS thing. The person who told you that was wrong. (About 1 out of 10 answers that the IRS gives over the phone are wrong.) Here's a link to information about the IP PIN on the IRS web site.

Did you receive a 6 digit Identity Protection PIN from the IRS?  The rejection for not having an IP PIN is from the IRS database which recognizes the Social Security number as requiring an IP PIN.  TurboTax has no way to know if you have or should have an IP PIN.

No I did not, and I don’t recall using one any other time I did my tax return. I keep trying to use the IRS website and it keeps locking me out saying the info I’m giving isn’t matching theirs. This is so needlessly ridiculous.
