My refund was deemed unpostable after my bank rejected my payment for the amount being larger than they accepted for direct deposit. What happens now?

the deposit is returned to the IRS which mails a check to the address on the return. this can take 2 months or more.

I contacted the irs because my initial deposit was made Feb 22nd to my prepaid card bank. The bank rejected it on Feb 23rd because my funds were over what they allowed for direct deposit. It took until March 20th for the IRS to receive the funds back for some reason. March 22nd the IRS tried uploading my return to the master file system and it was rejected because of errors so it wouldn't upload. The gentlemen I talked to said my refund was deemed unpostable and now they have to go through each code individually to see where the error came from. My question is how long is that possibly going to take to get taken care of and is there an estimate of when ill finally receive my return. Also what can I do to move this along (if that's at all possible) as i need that money to make it through for now.

Unfortunately you are at the mercy of the IRS and they are backlogged already. Impossible to say how long it will take.
