My last name and address are wrong on my w-2, what do I do

Both my last name and my address are wrong on my W-2.  I have not filed yet.  What do I have to do before I file?

The IRS will look to match your last name on your W-2 with the social security number you have one file with them. You will need to ask your employer to correct your name and your address on the W-2 and issue you a corrected W-2c. You should file an extension. You can continue to prepare your returns using the W-2 you were provided for now, to see if you owe or are getitng a refund.
