My K-1 form has an entry for section 17 and V is selected. I add an amount from stmnt. At Smartcheck, I get an error of missing value even though value is present?

After returning to remediate the error, I manually update the value, but the error persists. As a test, I started a new return from scratch, and added just the K1 information, at which the error occurs again. I also noted the QBI doesn't appear, and when going directly to form 8995, a popup appears stating I didn't qualify, which is incorrect. Anyone else have issues with this and find a work around?

Follow these directions to report Section 199A income for your S corporation K-1.

  1. At the screen Enter Box 17 info, you likely need to select code V Section 199A information.  No value needs to be entered.
  2. Click Continue.
  3. At the screen We need some information about your 199A income, you may need to enter some or all of the following information:
  •   Ordinary business income (loss) from this business,
  •   W-2 wages for this business, and
  •   UBIA of qualified property for this business.

Materials accompanying your K-1 may include a Statement A which reports the Section 199A items that need to be calculated.

Thank you for your response.

I had read something similar before posting from 2021, and tried removing the K-1, saving, closing TurboTax desktop, then restarting and re-entering the K1 information as you suggested.  Unfortunately, this did not resolve the error.   I had requested support on Sunday and received a call back.  When I explained the issue, I was told by the support person to start a completely different return to remediate the issue.

As a test, I started a new return entering only what was needed to get started before entering the K-1.   I followed the process as you described, and yet still received an error stating a value was needed (with V highlighted), but no value was added.  But it clearly showed the income entered on the same line, which had been entered in subsequent screens during the K-1 entry.  I have tried leaving the 17v line empty, entering 0 as another previous post had suggested, and entering the actual K-1 income value at this  step - all with the same error.

Just to complicate issues, I just received the expected K-1 yesterday, but they have two fields in K1 line 17 of V and AA.  The AA matches the income on the 199A statement, which I would assume would incorrectly double my income if I include both lines?

I am running Turbo Tax Home and Business Desktop version.  Turns out I didn't need the business version this year, but  it shouldn't really matter as far as preparing the return.

You may be able to resolve this using Forms Mode in TurboTax for Desktop.

  1. Open your return and click the Forms icon in the TurboTax header.
  2. In the list of Forms in My Return on the left, scroll down and look for K-1 S Corp (name of s-corp).
  3. Click the form name to open it in the large window.
  4. Scroll down to Line 17 and confirm you have both Code V and Code AA for this line.
  5. If you see a field in red, click the Errors icon above the list of forms. This will open a message box below the open form with an explanation of the form error.
  6. To review or enter Section 199A information for Code V, click the QuickZoom link below Line 17 "Code V Section 199A" or scroll down to Section D1.
  7. Enter the information from Statement A included with the K-1.
  8. Confirm that the highlighted form in the forms list doesn't have a red exclamation mark. This shows the form error has been resolved.
  9. Review any other forms in the list with red exclamation marks.
  10. When finished, click Step-by-Step in the header to return to the main screens.
  11. Now run SmartCheck again to see if the error has been resolved.
