My dependent got married

I'm baffled that Turbo Tax doesn't have something explicitly for "My dependent got married during 2016". There can only be thousands of households where that happened this year.

My dependent got married

It depends as to whether you can claim your now-married dependent as your dependent in 2016. And thank you for your feedback!  We always look for ways to improve our service.  This FAQ (which asks “Can I claim my relative or friend as a dependent?”) does have some information.  Please note the point “Marital Status”:

If the dependent is your child, for instance, you would still be able to claim your child as your dependent if:

1.       Their spouse files as Married Filing Separate instead of Married Filing Joint, or

2.       If filing Married Filing Joint, it is only to claim taxes withheld and no other benefits.

If, however, your child files MFJ with their spouse and they have a filing requirement, or they are claiming benefits like education credits or Earned Income Credit, you would no longer be able to claim your child even if you would otherwise have qualified to do so.
