My daughter is 20, full time student and made more than $4,050 last year. My house is her primary residence for 12 months. Can I claim her?

Turbo tax never asks if she is a full time student so it will not let me claim her.

Yes, you may be able to claim your son as a qualifying child if:
  • She is under 19, or a full-time student and under 24 years of age. There is no age limit if he is permanently and totally disabled.
  • She lives with you for more than half of the year (Temporary absences, like going to college does not count)
  • You provided more than half of her support for the tax year
  • You are the only person claiming her
See the article below for the rules about claiming a qualifying child.

Here is a worksheet that will help you determine if you provide more than half of your son's support:

https://apps.irs.gov/app/vita/content/globalmedia/teacher/worksheet_for_determining_support_4012.pdf

After adding your dependent and working through the questionnaire, you will be prompted to answer a series of questions, one asks if the dependent was a full time student and the second asks if your dependent paid for more than half of their living expenses. Make sure that those two questions are correctly answered. If you have already answered these questions, check the Personal Info section by clicking Edit next to your dependents name.

Yes, I should be able to claim her, but Turbo Tax will not let me.  It never asks if she is a full time student so it disqualifies her.  What am I doing wrong?

Click Edit next to your dependents name on the Personal Info tab. This should let you go back through the questionnaire. If you are unable to do so, remove the dependent and add her back by following these steps:
* Sign into TurboTax, click Pick up where I left off.
* Choose the Personal Info tab.
* Click Continue.
* On the Personal Info Summary screen, click the Edit button for Dependents.
* The next screen lists your dependents. Click the Delete button for the dependent that you want to remove.
* Choose Yes to confirm the deletion.
Once you add the dependent it will allow you to go back through the interview to click that she is a full time student.
