My 2021 return was rejected by e-file but I authorized electronic payment to the IRS and the state. If I mail the returns will I need to send a check for the payment?

Since your return was rejected, then no information about your payment did not go through.  Yes, if you mail in your returns, you would need to include a check for the amount owed.  If your returns were rejected because of your 2020 AGI, try using a Zero for your 2020 AGI.

 

You can mail in your return & if you want you can pay taxes owed on the IRS website, & on your State's website.

 

To pay the IRS:

https://www.irs.gov/payments

 

For State:

You can check your State's website for their payment options.
