When completing the Missouri taxes, I'm getting a message indicating that the Remote Work income should not be greater than the total Missouri wages entered on the Federal return. This is for my wife's income. We live in Florida and she worked remotely for a Missouri company for January and part of February 2022. She retired. However, she was given a bonus that was for previous year's work when we were Missouri residents, so that portion is on the W2 as Missouri State wages in Box 16. The Box 1 amount is larger than the Box 16 amount because it includes her salary for those two months she worked remotely. I'm assuming I should deduct the Missouri amount in Box 16 from Box 1 to get the Remote Work income amount, which is larger than the Missouri amount. TT is giving me this error saying the remote work income should not be larger than the Missouri wages. That doesn't make sense in our situation. How do we fix this?

I would include all of the MI income plus the bonus as remote income. She earned it in a prior year but received it in 2022 while working remotely. That should correct the issue. If that does not work then try it the other way. The important point is to ensure that all of the income is somehow reported on the return. If it is incorrect, MI will make adjustments and contact you for additional details if needed.
I guess I found the correct answer myself. When I corrected the Remote Work income amount to match the Missouri State Wages, the error disappeared. When I went back through everything, it all looked correct regarding total income vs Missouri income.
The bonus is the MO income and that's all of the MO income. The rest of the income was remote income and not taxable in MO. It's indicating that the remote income cannot be more than the MO income. I don't understand why the software would put a limit on that. In our case, the remote income is larger than the MO income. I have adjusted the remote income down to match the MO income. The strange part is that no matter what I put in the remote income, nothing changes on any of the forms other than the one cell where you enter the remote income.
