Do you have to file jointly if you were married for only 2 months of the year, specifically October to December?

Your filing status is determined on the last day of the year.  If you were legally married as of the last day of the year, you have the choice to file jointly with your spouse or separately.  Filing a joint return is usually more beneficial to you.  Here's a link for you with more information to help you decide:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/marriage/should-you-and-your-spouse-file-taxes-jointly-or-separately/L7gyjnqyM?srsltid=AfmBOorNjFgyeNpmvcnwfK2w_8tU_a7UIm1f9LPbv6raYxTdU5HynYOz
