My partner and I are getting married in a month. How do we file our 2023 taxes? Is it better to file jointly as a married couple or separately as a married couple?

If you are legally married as of 12/31/2023 then you can only file your 2023 tax return as either Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately.  In most all cases, from a tax standpoint, it is most beneficial to you by filing as Married Filing Jointly.

What is the difference in filing Married jointly or married separately? How does married filing joinly benefit us over married filing separately?
