Hi, I hope someone can provide a little guidance for us. I feel like we are caught up in the grinding wheels of IRS Bureaucracy. Last week my wife and received notices from the IRS via form CP503 with is a past due notice and is supposed to be the 3rd threatening one stating we owe about 38k more dollars. We never received the original two. I wanted to reach out them to find out if the error was on their side or our and could provide me a location to look at. I spent about 7-8 hours on the phone trying to reach someone to try and isolate what could have happened since we had already filled using turbo tax and didn't expect any surprises. Calling the IRS is a miserable experience btw. My call was dropped 2 times by the IRS upon phone pickups or the constant "please holds" and then right when they pick up I would get disconnected and they never call back. I finally got someone who seemed helpful and agreed something was amiss and had to transfer me to someone in amended returns who was less than helpful and could care less. They unfortunately weren't any help and sent me back to the same collections department but at least I was offered an automated system callback as the wait time was around 60 minutes. I did receive a callback and got someone who I felt actually looked at our numbers and discovered that my wife's W2 information was in the IRS systems. I have her W2's that her company sent but the IRS will not accept those as proof, we contacted her company and all they say is it was submitted. We logged into SSA and they have the information but if we look at her IRS transcripts it's totally empty. I was told that the due date would be extended for 6- days for our current amount due but can't figure out how to verify that. What other options are available for us if the IRS days they don't have the info and her employer says they filed and at this time don't appear to be helping us? The IRS agent I spoke to said we do have to file an amended return since it was already accepted and they decided we owe a lot more since they think nothing was withheld.
Any help would be appreciated and please don't make me call the IRS again.
Thanks J
