Hi, me and my partner separated last year around June, but are still married. We were just going to file Married-filing jointly as it seems the easiest, but I live in Texas and she moved to Virginia. My question is would there be any issue with the state taxes since Virginia has state taxes and Texas doesn't.
Would we still be able to file federally as Married-filing jointly and her file state taxes as Married-filing separately? Or, would just need to both just file Married-filing separately federally and let her do her state taxes?
Any help or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

if you both agree to file a joint 2025 federal return, that's permissible because you were married on 12/31/2025 even though separated. Texas has no personal income taxes so there's nothing to file for income deemed earned in Texas. As to Virginia, she might need to file form 760PY
here's a loink to the instructions
