Last years Recovery Rebate Credit (2020)

This is from Turbotax 2020 -- "Great news!  You qualify for the recovery rebate credit. Your credit is based on your adjusted gross income ($95,952) and the total stimulus payments you received ($0) which includes first and second round payments.

Any changes to the information on your tax return could impact your credit amount. After you file, the IRS will double check these numbers before approving you for this credit of $152."

On my 2020 return I owed Federal $79.

So, do they possibly owe me $152 now?

The credit is used to first reduce your balance due then any extra will be refunded ... however you say you still owe on the return after the credit was used (check the 1040 page 2 lines 24-31) to see how this works.

Yes, it's possible to receive a refund.  It should not be coming from the Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) for the economic impact payments (EIPs) because your income is too high. Review your original 1040 with the amended 1040 line by line to see where the change occurred.
