Intuit, step in. I am about to make a purchase of software program to enable me to prepare my US taxes. Again, I am an American citizen living abroad. To be clear, I do not have a US Bank account nor US credit card. I need a software program that takes into account the foregoing, that I have a real estate portfolio, and need to file the other forms that I have been filing as a US citizen abroad for the last 30 years. I am now retired and want to oversee my filing rather than continue with outside providers. Either Intuit Turbotax has equipped its software to assist (without additional add ons, effort, or need to indirectly purchase, etc.) or it does not. Please step in, remove the ambiguity, clarify your marketing so that I do not waste time attempting to purchase, or once having purchased, find out that you do not accommodate completely the needs of an expatriate American. I am confused, appreciate the input of the persons in this group, but you must be monitoring the messages regarding your product and I am asking you to address my questions directly. There is a huge and growing population of Americans living abroad, and the market is for you to capture. On the other hand, you will destroy your position if you allow inadequate marketing to lure us in, only to find that there are obvious obstacles that you have not worked out (when your competition has). Please advise.

In order to pay for using TurboTax software, you need a U.S. based credit or debit card. You will not be able to use a foreign card to purchase the software from Intuit. And many retailers such as amazon also have rules--so.... sorry.
Turbotax is not licensed for sale overseas, it says so right on the Amazon listing. I think this is due to national security restrictions on the built-in encryption technology used to transmit e-filed returns. So you really need to complain to the State Department.
You may be able to fool a retailer with a US address and US credit card, that's up to you. I would always recommend than an expat keep at least one US credit card and a US bank account (with a bank that has foreign branches, like BoA or HSBC) with a few dollars in it.
Here's one option for a U.S. Citizen that does not have a US bank account, phone number or billing address that has worked in the past.
All US embassies and "most" of their satellite offices (depending on the country) have a US banking facility in them. There you can purchase a pre-paid VISA in US DOLLARS. Then register that pre-paid VISA on the internet with a valid US mailing address and a valid US phone number. (You can use the address/phone of a relative in the states maybe?) Then you can use that pre-paid VISA to purchase the TurboTax product of your choosing, and to pay any filing fees you may need to pay when you actually e-file the return.
