Turbotax sees the 2024 return on my device, and I can select it, but "continue" does not turn blue so I cannot proceed - advice?

There are different steps to follow to use a tax file (.tax) versus a PDF. Your Mac should be able to convert the 2024 return in either format for use with the 2025 Mac program. Please see below and in this article:

If you have the .tax file for 2024:

  1. On your PC, find last year's tax file and copy it to a removable device like a thumb drive or flash drive.
  2. On your Mac, copy the tax file from the device to your desktop.
  3. Open TurboTax for Mac and choose File New Tax Return.
  4. Select Begin.
  5. TurboTax will search for 2022 tax return files on your computer and should find it. If it doesn't, select Find your tax return.
  6. Wait for TurboTax to finish transferring the information over.

If you have the PDF soft copy of a 2024 return created in non-TurboTax software, you might be able to transfer from the PDF.

Please advise if you are still having this issue.

I have my 2024 tax return on my Mac. When I try to download that information to my 2025 return, the prompt does not recognize the return as it is searching for for tax file. How do I convert my 2024 form to a tax file?

Yes, when you open TurboTax 2025, it is looking for a .tax2024 file to transfer.  If you have your tax data file on your computer, try moving it to your desktop and directing the 'browse' there.

If you have TurboTax 2024 on your computer, you can open it and re-save your tax file for transfer.
