Yes.  Once you enter your 1099-R, it will review your boxes and realize that you need to be asked additional questions about your pension. Your box 1 and 2a should be different numbers or nothing in 2a so the program knows to ask more questions. A number in box 5 also shows the difference between box 1 and box 2a.

Some people are required to use simplified - these are the general rules:

• qualified plan, 
• starting date after Nov 18, 1996, 
• under age 75 when it began
