Is Survivors Benefit Plan considered a Qualified plan?
Best answer by JohnB5677

Military Survivor plans are not considered Qualified plans. They are more closely regarded as an annuity.

Because they are administered by the Department of Defense, they are not classified as "qualified" (like a 401(k) or 403(b)).

While SBP premiums are paid with pre-tax dollars, the resulting annuity income received by the beneficiary is generally taxable.
