Is a $250 check that I received from my employer at Christmas taxable?

This money was not included in my bi-weekly bank deposit but rather on a hand-written company (dental practice) check.   I am therefore very confident that it was included my W2.  Nor have I received Form 1099-MISC.  I do not expect to receive a 1099.  TurboTax seems to direct me to report this on Form 8919 which is used to calculate uncollected social security and Medicare tax.  It also directs me to file Form SS-8 to determine employment status.  Ii am clearly an employee.  I believe the dentists intended this to be a gift.

It appears to have been a Christmas bonus.  You are an employee.  Despite the fact that it was issued outside the regular payroll check system, your employer should have included it in your W-2.  It is not your responsibility to "guess" if it is included or not.  It is not reportable as tips, and you should not file Form SS-8 to determine your employment status.

You are an employee, you received a proper IRS form W-2 for your wages.  Unless you feel there is an error in your W-2, you should file your taxes with the W-2. The Christmas bonus does not come into play when doing your income taxes.
