This isn't a question, but a few comments about the IRS being overwhelmed this year. (2022) I filed in April and had a sizable refund due. It never showed up, so I had to manually file a paper copy with a letter of explanation and ask where my refund was. I finally got the refund in September. I was never able to speak with a live agent.

Also, attended a tax update meeting this past weekend and a professional tax preparer I met with said he has the same problem, and as a professional he has no access currently.  It's unfortunate, but at this point I will try and avoid refunds for 2022 and make sure I owe a little, considering the hurtles I had to jump thru to get my refund. Hope this helps.

Thank you for sharing.  I've always felt that getting a large refund was like giving the IRS an interest free loan.  You may want to use TaxCaster Tax Calculator for 2022 to assist you in estimating your refund or tax you may owe the IRS in 2022.

Thank you Loretta! I agree, giving the IRS free use of our money is wasteful.  I retired in 2021 and have to make estimated payments. I overestimated those amounts and will have to be more careful about that. It never was a problem before, as I always owed money and any refunds were promptly credited to my account, it's only in 2021 did I notice a complete meltdown of customer service at the IRS.
