Installing TurboTax on a different desktop

I’m in the process of downloading and installing TurboTax on a new laptop. In the past, when I installed TurboTax on my old laptop, my information was automatically imported.

Is there a way to achieve the same result on the new machine? Specifically, I’m wondering if I need to have the .tax file on the new laptop in order to import my data, or if there’s another method to transfer my information.

I would appreciate any guidance you can provide.

you'll need to copy the .tax2023 file to your new computer.  When you start your 2024 return and select "use a tax return that's on my computer", TurboTax may not automatically find and show the file in the list, you may need to click the "Find your tax return" link to point TT to the right directory.  After that it remembers that directory as its default for .tax files.
